About this banknote
The Tesouro Nacional (National Treasury) of Brazil issued the 100 cruzeiros banknote (Pick 153) between 1955 and 1959. This series was introduced to replace the previous mil-réis currency, following the 1942 monetary reform that established the cruzeiro as the national currency.
The obverse features a central portrait of Dom Pedro II, Brazil's last emperor, encased in an ornate frame, with the denomination numerals "100" on either side. The reverse displays an allegorical representation of National Culture, based on a work by artist Cadmo Fausto de Souza. This note was printed by the American Bank Note Company and was demonetized on February 12, 1967.
