The Banco de Guatemala issued the 1 quetzal banknote (Pick 66) on January 3, 1986. This series, produced between 1983 and 1989, was printed by Giesecke & Devrient in Leipzig, Germany. The quetzal currency was introduced in 1925 during the presidency of José María Orellana.
