About this banknote
The Central Bank of Cuba issued a new series of convertible peso banknotes on December 18, 2006. This series introduced individualized reverse designs for each denomination, replacing the uniform national shield that appeared on the backs of previous issues. Additionally, enhanced security features were incorporated, including a watermark of José Martí's portrait accompanied by the denomination numeral.
The obverse of the 1 peso note features a portrait of José Martí. The reverse depicts Fidel Castro and his men entering Havana on January 8, 1959. The note measures 150 x 70 mm and was signed by Francisco Soberón Valdés.
