About this banknote
The Banco Nacional de Cuba issued the 1 peso banknote (Pick 112) in 1978 as part of its ongoing series from 1967 to 1988. This series was introduced following the demonetization of previous banknotes on August 7, 1961, and the subsequent issuance of new notes printed in Czechoslovakia by Statni Tiskarna Cenin (STC).
The obverse of the 1978 1 peso note features a portrait of José Martí, a national hero of Cuba. The reverse depicts Fidel Castro and his men entering Havana on January 8, 1959. The banknote measures 150 x 70 mm and was printed by STC in Prague, Czechoslovakia.
