About this banknote
The Banco Nacional de Cuba issued the 1 peso banknote (Pick 102) in 1970 as part of the 1967-1990 series. This series was introduced following the demonetization of previous banknotes on August 7, 1961, and the subsequent issuance of new notes printed in Czechoslovakia by Statni Tiskarna Cenin (STC).
The front of the 1970 1 peso note features an olive-green portrait of José Martí, a national hero, poet, and philosopher, centered on an ochre underprint. The reverse depicts Fidel Castro, Camilo Cienfuegos, and rebel soldiers entering Havana on January 8, 1959. This banknote measures 150 x 70 mm and lacks a security thread. It was demonetized on May 1, 2002.
