The Banco Nacional de Cuba issued the 1 peso banknote (Pick 87c) in 1958. This series was printed by Thomas de la Rue & Co. in London. The note was signed by Joaquín Martínez Sáenz, President of the National Bank of Cuba (1953-1958), and Alejandro Herrera Arango, Minister of Finance in 1958.
The obverse features a portrait of José Martí in an oval frame on the right and an image of Civic Square (now Revolution Square) at the center. The reverse displays the Cuban coat of arms at the center, with scenes of sugar cane harvesting on the left and industrial processing on the right. This banknote was demonetized on August 4, 1961.
