About this banknote

The Banco Central de Emisión de la República de Panamá issued this 1 Balboa note in 1941. This series, known as the "Arias" series, was introduced during the presidency of Arnulfo Arias. It was quickly withdrawn due to changes in government, making these notes scarce.

The front side design features an engraving of Vasco Núñez de Balboa, the Spanish explorer. The reverse side displays the coat of arms of Panama. Printed by the Hamilton Bank Note Company, 2,700,000 Balboas worth of these notes were circulated. The note is catalogued as Pick 22.
