The Banque de France issued the 500 francs "Pascal" banknote on June 7, 1979. This series, introduced in 1968, featured the renowned French mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal. The note remained in circulation until its withdrawal on March 22, 1995, and ceased to be legal tender on March 1, 1997.
The front of the banknote displays Blaise Pascal at the center, with the bell tower of the Saint-Jacques church in Paris to his left. The reverse features Pascal again, accompanied by an image of the Port Royal Abbey. The note measures 97 x 180 mm and has a color scheme of yellow-brown and dark brown. The watermark is a depiction of Pascal's death mask.
