The Banque de France issued the 10 francs "Berlioz" banknote series between November 23, 1972, and July 6, 1978. This series was introduced to honor the French Romantic composer Hector Berlioz (1803–1869).
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Hector Berlioz at the right, conducting his "Requiem" with an orchestra in the Chapelle des Invalides in Paris. The back depicts Berlioz playing a guitar in front of Villa Medici in Rome, with the Mausoleum of Hadrian and St. Peter's Basilica in the background. The banknote measures 140 x 75 mm and was printed by the Banque de France.
