The Polish State Loan Bank (Polska Krajowa Kasa Pożyczkowa) issued the 1/2 marki banknote in 1916 during the German occupation of Poland in World War I. Established on December 9, 1916, the bank introduced the Polish marka to replace the Russian ruble and other currencies circulating in the region.
The obverse of the banknote features a crowned eagle on the left, with text reading "Zarząd Generał-Gubernatorstwa" and the denomination "Pół Marki Polskiej" on the right.
