The Banque de France issued the 100 francs banknote featuring Eugène Delacroix from 1978 to 1989. This series was introduced to replace the previous 100 francs note and remained in circulation until February 1, 1999.
The front of the banknote displays a portrait of Eugène Delacroix at the left center, with Marianne holding the tricolor flag from his painting "La Liberté guidant le peuple" to the right. The reverse features Delacroix at right, holding a quill pen. The note measures 160 x 85 mm and was demonetized on January 1, 2009.
