The Banque de France issued the 100 francs "Luc Olivier Merson" banknote from 1908 to 1939, replacing the previous 100 francs "bleu et rose" note. This series was introduced on January 1, 1908, and remained in circulation until it was succeeded by the 100 francs "Sully" note.

The front of the note features allegorical representations of Agriculture and Commerce, with a woman and child depicted on both the left and right sides. The reverse showcases allegories of Labor and Fortune, including a depiction of a blacksmith. The note measures 182 x 112 mm and is multicolored. The 1936 issues bear the signatures of J. Boyer as "Le Caissier Principal" and P. Strohl as "Le Secrétaire Général," with their tenure spanning from January 12, 1933, to June 30, 1937.
