The official currency of Myanmar is the kyat, issued by the Central Bank of Myanmar since its establishment in 1990. Paper money was first introduced in the country in 1952, after the transition from the pre-colonial currency system. A significant reform occurred in 1987 when the government issued a new kyat, effectively redenominating the currency by eliminating two zeros.
Collectors often focus on Myanmar's banknotes due to their unique designs, which frequently feature local flora and fauna. The series issued in 2012 stands out for its vibrant colors and intricate patterns, integrating traditional symbols and imagery reflecting the nation’s diverse cultural landscape. The use of holographic elements in more recent issues also appeals to collectors for their advanced security features.
