Об этой банкноте

The Assignation Bank of the Russian Empire issued the 25 Rubles Assignation banknote in 1769, as part of the inaugural series of paper currency introduced under Empress Catherine II. This initiative aimed to alleviate the burden of copper coinage in large transactions and to finance military expenditures during the Russo-Turkish War (1768–1774).

The obverse of the banknote features a central serial number above the word "ASSIGNAT." Two embossed medallions are present: the left depicts military and trade symbols with the inscription "ПОКОИТЪ И ОБОРОНЯЕТЪ" ("Peace and Defense"), while the right shows a rock amidst waves with "НЕВРЕДИМА" ("Unharmed"). The watermark includes inscriptions along the perimeter and the coats of arms of Astrakhan, Kazan, Siberia, and Moscow in the corners. Measuring 190×250 mm, this note is cataloged as Pick A1 and is considered rare.
