The Banque de France issued the 5000 francs "Terre et Mer" banknote series from March 10, 1949, to November 7, 1957. This series was introduced to replace earlier high-denomination notes and remained in circulation until its withdrawal on March 18, 1959.
The front of the banknote features Pomona and Amphitrite at the center, holding a cornucopia, a shell, and a trident. The back depicts Mercury and Minerva, with a factory in the background to the right. The note measures 170 x 110 mm and includes a watermark with two female portraits.
