The Sveriges Riksbank issued the 5-kronor banknote in 1944 as part of its ongoing series introduced in 1918. This series continued to be issued until 1952.

The obverse features the seated figure of Mother Svea with a lion, accompanied by black and green guilloche patterns. The reverse displays a portrait of King Gustav I (Gustav Vasa) (~1496–1560). This note measures 121 x 70 mm and was printed on paper with a watermark of horizontal zig-zag lines.
