The Banque de France issued the 5 nouveaux francs banknote in 1960 as part of the currency revaluation initiated on January 1, 1960, which introduced the "nouveau franc" valued at 100 old francs. This banknote was printed from March 1959 to November 1965 and was gradually withdrawn from circulation starting January 3, 1967, ceasing to be legal tender on April 1, 1968.
