The "Banque de l'Afrique Occidentale" issued this 5 franc banknote in 1942 for use in the French West African colonies, including Togo. This series was introduced to provide a uniform currency for the region during a time of significant global upheaval and economic adjustment during World War II.
The front side design features a profile of a woman adorned with traditional jewelry, set against a guilloche pattern. The back side includes an ornamental numeral "5" with the date "14 Décembre 1942" and a legal warning. This note was printed by E.A.
