The Banco de México issued the 1 peso banknote (Pick 28) in 1936, marking the introduction of this denomination by the central bank. This series was printed by the American Bank Note Company and remained in circulation until 1970.

The obverse features the Aztec Sun Stone at the center, with "UN" in the background under the signatures at the left and right. The reverse displays the Monument to Independence, designed by architect Antonio Rivas Mercado and sculptor Enrique Alciati. The note measures 157 x 66 mm and was demonetized on January 1, 1996.
